let me tell you a story about a wife, her husband, and her desire to do something nice for her husband. the wife had been looking forward all week to a long weekend with her husband. the wife and the husband have been so busy these last few months, that a nice, relaxing week at home seemed like just what the doctor ordered. so on the first morning of the long weekend, the wife intended to start it off right. wife gets up early and takes their dogs for a LONG walk. while out for the walk she decides to let her husband wake up slowly to the sounds and smells of breakfast being made. husband has been pretty taxed this summer so far, he's taking 2 8-week classes which are very intense b/c they're so short, not to mention WHAT classes they are, Thermodynamics and Vector Mechanics/Dynamics. on top of that husband has been sick for about a week, and they just got back Sunday from a long weekend out of state. so letting husband sleep in while she made him a nice breakfast seemed like a good idea...
one would think that nearly 6 years into their marriage she would have this down. turns out...not so much. now, as a disclaimer, this was the first time she was using their new griddle...which she has not ventured to use since it's purchase nearly a month ago. figuring out just how hot 200/250 degrees is and how fast that would cook things proved to be a challenge for wife. the menu was a good one, designed to produce the scents desired to wake up husband, and the substance he needs to get through the busy day ahead. pancakes, scrambled eggs, bacon (pre-cooked, microwaveable kind), and some fruit. turns out the fruit was the easy part. throw some bananas on a plate. done. (that was mainly for wife...husband goes for the more hearty foods!) wife then prepared the pancake mix, scrambled egg mix and got the table set while the griddle was heating. looking back...she maybe should have stopped at the fruit.
disaster #1: attempting to flip the pancakes before they're ready. this resulted in a big doughy mess, with broken pancakes. now...that doesn't really affect the taste as much as it does the presentation factor. of course, wife has no time to rectify this mess before husband begins to make his way downstairs and perk up at the sight of breakfast being made. wife watches his face as it morphs from a look of satisfaction to a look of "ooooh, what happened here?" this look is priceless. :o)
disaster #2: trying to make scrambled eggs on the griddle, when it's not hot enough that the egg cooks immediately after being poured. this resulted in the mix spreading over the entire griddle, dripping through the drip hole, and really, just one big mess. by this point the wife was pretty frustrated at how this venture was turning out, and allows the husband to take over. he has quite a knack for cleaning up the wife's messes (in more ways than one). so while he fixed that, wife, in her frustration, went up to shower quick. by quick, she means in and out, dried, dressed, and lotioned in less than 10 min. if you know this wife, you know that's a small miracle. :o) in spite of the quickness, by the time wife returns downstairs, husband had already eaten his well, tasty breakfast. which was fine, as the wife figured he could just go up and get ready and they'd start their day. and then, as she's sitting down to eat, she notices there's no bacon. she says to husband, "you didn't make the bacon?" he replies "i didn't know there was bacon". and then he realizes what's happening. he says "wait a minute...did you just ask me if I made the bacon? wasn't this your thing?" so wife throws the bacon in the microwave while husband laments how nice bacon would have been with his breakfast.
and then, with his infinite ability to turn a fiasco into something humorous, husband says..."i'm going to go up and read for a little while. then i'm going to take a shower, and we're going to forget all about this. i'm going to come back downstairs, and we're going to start over...where you don't try to cook anything."
meekly, wife responds, "do i get an A for effort though??"

End of paragraph 3: I know that look :-)
I want to get one of those griddles. Guess it will require a few test runs beforehand.
Definite A for effort!
Oh Stacia...I love you so! This made me laugh, and laugh, and laugh some more! I can just see the whole thing playing out!

Didn't your mom teach you anything... Hope you have that perfected before we get out there. We still love you! Mom
