time will tell

i know i know...it's been a while. truthfully i just haven't felt like blogging in a while b/c i haven't had much to say. no fun hiking stories and definitely no good job stories. i started working part-time at J.Crew to get out of the house and help contribute to the household income (what little J.Crew pays me anyway!). it's a really fun job and the people are great and the income does help. anyway, today i actually felt like blogging.

after months of interviews that led to no job and virtually no help from some faculty members at a university which will go unnamed, i decided to do some cold calling today. recently i've been considering a career change...that's how discouraged i've been about the field of counseling in colorado. today i went with John to his transfer student orientation at said university, and began looking through his course catalog for some ideas. through this process i had the thought that this is completely ridiculous and i've invested too much in my career thus far to give up and do something else. i need to take charge and MAKE something happen (i thought i was doing that by sending my resume out and going on 6 or 7 interviews over the summer...but I digress). so...i asked for a phone book while John was on some group session...and decided to make some calls. i hate cold calling. being told no so many times in one day is very trying. but after a few calls, i got a break. this really nice woman, who happens to be an LMFT, (and who called me sweetie so many times i lost count) was so sympathetic to my situation that she invited me for tea in order to help me figure something out. she professed that she is well established in the community, with some MFT connections, and would love to sit down with me and help me get connected. THANK GOD!! i know...i should have done this a long time ago. but maybe it was meant to happen this way. she seemed to have an understanding of what i am going through, as she said that she picked up and moved states 26 years ago and continued her MFT career here in CO. she reminded me so much of a friend of mine from wichita it was uncanny. we won't get together until after the Thanksgiving holiday, we are both going out of town, but as you can tell i feel a bit encouraged by this encounter and I pray that it will lead to something. if you get a minute, lift one up to the big J.C. for me, i could really use it.

Very exciting stuff and way to take charge. It is amazing what you can find when you make things personal. Paper vs. human voice... Hopefully this connection opens doors your never thought to open. All the best!
