day one down

so my first day is done...got that one out of the way! it went great, and i left with a good feeling. i learned a lot about what this job will entail, and so far i think it's going to be a good fit for me. i'm still crossing my fingers, as it was only my first day...and once the novelty wears off i'm sure there will be things i don't like...but that's true of any job.

i learned that in 2 weeks i will be going to dayton, ohio for a 3 day training. and holy cow, trying to find decent flights from denver to dayton was a process in itself. most flights were with 1 or 2 stops and took 9 hours (which includes the time change). so i'm leaving at the butt crack of dawn b/c once i get there i have a little over an hour drive to the training site. at any rate, i was really excited about this news! i love to travel, and i get the 'itch' to fly every now and then. last i was on a plane was in october...so i'm ready for another trip...even if it is for work!!! wasn't too thrilled about the location...as the girl who went before me got to go to florida...

anyway, so far it sounds great. i pretty much get to set my own schedule, and they don't micromanage our time...so that's nice. i will have to work in the evenings some days, b/c a lot of times that's when you can get the whole family together...but i'm used to that. and we're (john & i) in a place right now where i can be pretty flexible with my schedule. i met one of my office mates today (the other one is on maternity leave...already i'm surrounded by babies...but that's a whole other topic!)...and she's really nice. both she and my supervisor are right around my age, which is a nice change compared to the last place i worked...where i was a few decades younger than my co-workers. it's nice to have some co-workers in my age group!! in fact, the woman that hired me is actually leaving at the beginning of march, and they were talking about what kind of send off to give her. apparently she likes competitive things so they were talking about doing a run/race together as a team. we're all runners! how cool is that?! i don't know but i've got a good feeling...and it might just well be the way i'm approaching this position when compared to the last one. i really didn't like any of my options for employment in wichita...and landed at the least evil of them all (or so i thought)...but ended up really unhappy anyway...partly b/c i didn't want to be there and partly b/c the work environment was pretty crappy and the team morale was low b/c of it. i'm trying to approach this position with a positive attitude, an 'it is what you make of it' attitude, and so far, so good.

Yay Stacia!! I hadn't heard you found a job! Congratuations! I know that it took some time. I am sure it is such a relief. I, myself, am in the same boat right now. Job searching is such a nightmare, particularly in this economy. Let me know how it is going!!
